KFD Wilkinson is a long-established firm of civil- and structural engineers based in Cape Town, South Africa. The practice is of medium size, large enough to handle major projects yet sufficiently compact to maintain a high degree of involvement from a senior level.  A Director is assigned as the senior member of each of our projects. Our policy is to employ well-qualified professional staff of high calibre in order to maintain the quality of engineering we deliver. We are committed to building endearing relationships with our clients and our employees and strive for excellence, stability, trust and boldness in all that we do.

From long experience the directors of KFD Wilkinson (Pty) Ltd appreciate the value of the traditional approach to civil engineering and the use of established materials and methods of construction. Concurrent with that appreciation is a concern for the requirements of the project as a whole, its sustainability and social impact and not just the engineering function. We thus seeks to tailor our practice of engineering to promote these broader requirements. Successful implementation of this philosophy is attained through the imaginative application of the vast range of engineering skills available within our practice.

All the important designs produced by us contain an element of originality and innovation, never for the sake of originality alone but solely to promote the project requirements or for the purpose of speed or economy in construction.

We are honoured to have received much recognition for our work during the past two decades. As we continue to strive for excellence the satisfaction of our customers remains our greatest reward.

The company was founded in 1956 by Ken Wilkinson. Before starting the private practice on his own, he had 15 years experience in bridges, including a unique long-span, reinforced Bailey bridge across the Po in Italy as well as roads, earth dams and structures in South Africa.

During his 24 years as principal of the firm Ken Wilkinson contributed actively to the solution and successful conclusion of all major and most of the minor projects. During his retirement he was still involved as a consultant in his main fields which are the design of heavy industrial structures, silos and foundations. He passed away in 2015 at the high age of 99 years.

The practice has brought to fruition some of the most important projects in the Western Cape and continues to produce innovative, efficient designs.
